Products I Love

Every now and then I will find a product that I latch on to in my daily pursuit to eat a cleaner and healthier diet. Since I've discovered that I have a sensitivity to certain foods, including dairy, I've been much more conscious of choosing products with a more discerning eye.

Now I'm a girl who loves her grains for breakfast, but since I read the book, Wheat Belly, by Dr. WIlliam Davis, I've been trying like hell to stay away from wheat and wheat products, and I definitley feel better for it.

A while back I was shopping in the breakfast aisle at Whole Foods and discovered this grain free granola from a company called Paleonola. When I first eyed the package I thought that with a name like Paleonola, it might be made here in New Orleans. Crazy, I know. Well, it's actually made in Pantucket, Rhode Island. It is grain free, gluten free, preservative free and has no fillers. I guess the name refers to the fact that it is considered proper food for a Paleo Diet. It's also a bit pricey at 6.99 per 10 oz bag. It mainly contains a combination of nuts, nut meals and seeds with a little sweetening from honey and a little apple juice concentrate.

Anyway, I bought a package in the original flavor and took it home.

I have to say that eating this granola is very satisfying. I only spoon out 1/4 cup of this beautiful food into my bowl and top it with 1 teaspoon each of dried Goji berries, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, ground flax seed, pumpkin seeds and dessicated coconut. This adds volume to my bowl plus the seeds are loaded with Omega 3 fatty acids, which are a crucial componant in the structure and function of each cell in our body. Coconut also contains a very beneficial type of fat for your heart, immune system, metabolism, skin and thyroid. (You can read about the benefits of Goji berries in an earlier post of mine.) I pour in some unsweetened almond mild and I can't tell you how wonderful a breakfast this is for me.

Breakfast is definitley the most important meal of the day and this one gets you going and stays with you for quite a while. Plus, you won't get that empty feeling you sometimes have a couple of hours after eating a sweet for breakfast.

Here is my bowl of Paleonola grain free granola topped with seeds, coconut and goji berries. I highly recommend this nutritious breakfast fuel to boost your energy and stamina and to help your precious body function at its best. Enjoy, my friends.
