Kombucha Comes to NoLa

Kombucha is one of those drinks that you tend to either love or hate....at least that's the way it has been for me since I first tried it. For me, the flavor is usually what I would describe as something "going bad".

I wanted to know what the excitement about this drink was all about so I started doing a little research of my own and discovered that kombucha has been produced in China for over 1000 years.

Kombucha is made from sweetened tea that is fermented with a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast. In the first half of the 20th centuty research was extensively done in Russia and Germany

because of a push to find a cure for rising cancer rates. it was discovered that vast regions in Russia appeared to be immune to cancer and it was hypothesized that Kombucha was the reason.

Throught this research they discovered what Kombucha contains that is so beneficial to health.

The number one benefit of Kombucha is that it detoxifies the body. It contains many enzymes and bacterial acids your body uses to detoxify your system. It's also high in Glucaric acid which is known to prevent cancer.

The second benefit of Kombucha is joint health. Kombucha contains glucosamines which helps preserve cartilage in joints and in turn, prevents pain. It also contains Hyaluronic acid which enables connective tissue to bind moisture thousands of times its weight, maintains tissue moisture, lubrication and flexibility.

Kombucha also aids in digestion and gut health because is a probiotic beverage.

So, as you can see, there are many health benefits to drinking a daily glass of Kombucha.

I would advise you to try several brands to find one that you enjoy, or you can also try making it yourself at home. There are many tutorials on the internet where you can learn the process of making this nutritios beverage.

Happy Tasting!
