The Skyrocketing Costs of Healthcare

Fact: Up to 80% of our nation's health care costs are related to chronic conditions that have their origins in poor lifestyle behaviors
Fact: 1.8 trillion dollars of the 2.4 trillion spent on healthcare in 2009 can be attributed to unhealthy lifestyle behaviors
Fact: Our healthcare "system" is primarily geared toward returning people to their unhealthy lifestyles and not to changing their unhealthy lifestyle patterns.
Fact: Making positive changes to disease fostering health patterns can only happen when individuals are held accountable for making such changes.
Although this article was written in 2009 the numbers have only continued to rise to unacceptable rates and there doesn't seem to be any incentive to change the model from disease management to disease prevention.
It's up to individuals to manage their health and lifestyle choices and health coaches can help foster positive change by assisting their clients and holding them accountable for the changes they make in deference to their health.
